Erwin is a town in Steuben County, New York, United States.

Erwin is in the southeast part of the county and is west of the city of Corning.

The first permanent settlement came around 1786, and "Erwin" was listed in the first census of the United States in 1790.

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 7,227 people, 2,977 households, and 1,949 families residing in the town.

There were 3,196 housing units at an average density of 82.6 per square mile (31.9/km2).

30.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
