Fritz Noll

Fritz Noll (27 August 1858 in Frankfurt am Main – 19 June 1908) was a German botanist who made contributions in the field of plant physiology.

He studied natural history and sciences at the Universities of Würzburg, Marburg and Heidelberg.

In 1887 he became an assistant to Julius von Sachs at the University of Würzburg, and during the same year received his habilitation.

He is known for being the first to identify the phenomenon of parthenocarpy and coin the term.

[1] With Eduard Strasburger, Heinrich Schenck and Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper, he was co-author of "Lehrbuch der Botanik für Hochschulen", a book that was later translated into English with the title of "A Text-book of Botany" (1898).
