George Herman (journalist)

He first worked for the New York classical music station WQXR, which was gaining a reputation for news since hiring reporter and commentator Quincy Howe.

He left the radio station when it was purchased by The New York Times and applied to Paul White, director of CBS News and a member of the Columbia University faculty.

[1] Herman traveled to Asia in 1949 with a 16mm camera and audio recorder, and provided CBS with its first sound-and-film reports from overseas.

Herman was also the first reporter to broadcast coverage of the burglary of the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in 1972.

He was a long-standing moderator for the Face the Nation program and interviewed hundreds of politicians and celebrities, including Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran and Muhammad Ali.
