Jack Dixon is the Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology, Cellular & Molecular Medicine, Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine.
He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a PhD in 1971.
[3] Dixon joined the faculty of Purdue University in 1973 where he became the Wiley Professor of Biochemistry.
In 2003 Dixon went to UC San Diego, where he became dean for scientific affairs and professor in the department of pharmacology.
Three years later he accepted the position of vice president and chief scientific officer at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and served there from 2007 until 2013.
