Jarkent Mosque

The mosque was built in 1895 to the design of the Chinese architect Hon Piquet using the collected funds of immigrants.

A proposal to build a new mosque was received from the first guild merchant Vali Akhun Yuldashev in 1887 year at a meeting of the Muslim community of Jarkent.

The mosque was used for various purposes during Soviet rules: there were warehouses, a granary, a barracks for border guards, a cinema and a teahouse.

The skeleton of the mosque building is formed by 122 wooden posts fastened by a system of beams and nozzles.

The highlight of the mosque is the abundance of decor – wood carvings, polychrome paintings in rich colors.

The interior decoration is dominated by plant motifs, Arabic script, elements of the Uyghur ornament.
