She started her legal career as an associate at the law firm of Strasburger & Price, LLP, in Dallas, where she was employed from 1982 to 1996.

In private practice, she focused on employment, commercial, and anti trust law.

Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz to nominate Scholer to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas as part of a bipartisan package of nominees which included E. Scott Frost, to the seat vacated by Judge Richard A. Schell, who assumed senior status on March 10, 2015.
