Kiambere Hydroelectric Power Station

It straddles the border of Embu and Kitui Counties in the former Eastern Province.

The power station is operated by the Kenya Electricity Generating Company and is part of the Seven Forks Scheme.

Water from an intake on the saddle dam travels through a 4,060 m (13,320 ft) headrace tunnel to the power station which is located underground.

Water released from the power station is returned to the Tana via a 1.4 km (0.87 mi) long tailrace tunnel.

The difference in elevation between the reservoir and power station affords a hydraulic head of 150.5 m (494 ft).
