On May 17, 1912 the club heard back from the Carnegie Foundation and were awarded $7,000 to construct the building on the condition the town of Cuthbert pay $700 per year for maintenance and upkeep from then on.
[8] The process to obtain the grant was somewhat complicated, as the town exaggerated its census size in order to secure a larger building and already had its own subscription-based library which some members of the Carnegie Foundation found to be perfectly suitable for Dawson.
