[9][10] Kota Srinivasa Rao was born on 10 July 1942 in the village of Kankipadu in present-day Andhra Pradesh.

Srinivasa Rao initially aimed to become a doctor but eventually couldn't make it because of his love towards acting.

He lost his son Kota Venkata Anjaneya Prasad on 20 June 2010 in a road accident in Hyderabad.
