Earliest archaeological traces date back to 900–600 BC, with major expansion of the settlement occurring around 250–400 AD.
Ethnohistoric documents claim the founding of Nojpetén in the mid-15th century AD Settled by Dutch in 1635.
Named Newton by English in 1636, then changed to Hartford in 1637.
