Maltralian

The development of the Maltese language in a country far removed from Malta continued, in an environment that maintained a sense of origin and culture.

However, modern forms of transportation and sudden economic changes prompted mass emigration from Malta.

Between 1911 and 1939 6,000 Maltese people emigrated to Australia and in the ten years between 1940 and 1949 numbers rose to 8,000.

After these first publications in Maltese by Charles Parnis and some other writers who wrote from 1929 to 1935, there was a pause in work published by Australian-Maltese authors, due to the Second World War.

Publication of Australian-Maltese works resumed (in the Maltese language) after 1949, in Melbourne.
