He represented the Nellore Loksabha Constituency in Andhra Pradesh and is a member of the YSR Congress.

[1] Reddy lost an election contest in 1983 as an Indian National Congress (INC) candidate.

In 1985 he was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly as a candidate of the same party, and in 1989 he became an INC member of the Lok Sabha.

Reddy then became a member of the YSR Congress and was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha in a by-election.

[2] He was elected as Leader in Lok Sabha from YSRCP Party.
