Bangladesh, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Eritrea, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Portugal, Singapore, South Sudan, Ukraine and Wales withdrew from the competition after their respective organizations failed to appoint a delegate.

The results of the in-depth interview along with the preliminary competition, which consisted of swimsuit and evening gown sections, determined the twenty semi-finalists to advance.
