Noheji

[2] Noheji occupies the southeastern coastline of Mutsu Bay at the base of the Shimokita Peninsula.

[7] During the post-Meiji restoration creation of the modern municipalities system on 1 April 1889, the village of Noheiji was established.

Noheji has a mayor-council form of government with a directly elected mayor and a unicameral town council of 12 members.

In terms of national politics, the town is part of Aomori 2nd district of the lower house of the Diet of Japan.

The economy of Noheji is heavily dependent on commercial fishing, especially for scallops, and on agriculture with the raising of mountain yams predominating.
