Professor Petr Mandl DSc (5 November 1933 – 24 February 2012) was a Czech mathematician known for his contributions to the fields of stochastic processes and actuarial science.
After twenty years spent at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences he returned to the university as a lecturer.
For many years he tirelessly organised a Seminar in Actuarial Science (Czech: Seminář z aktuárských věd) at University premises.
In 2009, he was awarded a Medal of Merit by the president of Czech Republic for his services to the state in the field of science.
[4] While Mandl was much respected for his expertise and breadth of knowledge he was also disliked for his poor lecturing and autocratic behaviour.
