Pfungen is a municipality in the district of Winterthur in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland.
Of the rest of the land, 24% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (2%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
As of 2007[update] 22.3% of the total municipal area was undergoing some type of construction.
It consists of the village of Pfungen and settlements in the Rums river valley as well as the industrial development in Bruni.
Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (85.1%), with Italian being second most common ( 6.2%) and Turkish being third ( 2.5%).
