Poecilus chalcites is a species of woodland ground beetle in the family Carabidae.
[1][2][3] It is found in the Caribbean, Central America, and North America,[2] and is common in cropland of Illinois and other states.
[4] Poecilus chalcites is a carnivourous species known to eat various crop pests including Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, Helicoverpa zea, Agrotis ipsilon, and Mythimna unipuncta.

In males, it is heart-shaped, but in females it is thinner.
