The game retains many of the features of that title, including nationwide online play and the ability to use PlayStation 2 controllers.
The new title is the latest installment in the Winning Eleven series which has sold over 56 million copies (as of September 2009) worldwide.
Officially licensed by the Japan Football Association, the new release features the biggest names in Japanese soccer sporting their national team uniforms.
