She is a tribologist whose research includes work on contact mechanics, lubrication, micromechanics, and solid-state batteries.

[1] Wang studied mechanical engineering at the Xi'an University of Technology, graduating in 1982.

She went to Northern Illinois University for graduate study in mechanical engineering, and earned a master's degree there in 1989.

[2] She has also won numerous best-paper awards,[1] and her research publications have been cited more than 12,000 times as of September 2022.

Wang worked with fellow engineer at Northwestern Yip-Wah Chung to edit the Encyclopedia of Tribology.
