At the 2000 census,[3] there were 6,507 people, 2,265 households and 1,845 families residing in the township.
15.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
The township is served by four separate public school districts.
The southwest portion of the township is served by Adrian Public Schools.
A small portion of the southeast corner is served by Blissfield Community Schools, while another very small portion in the southeast area of the township is served by Britton Deerfield School District.
