The racial makeup of the township was 99.30% White, 0.35% Native American and 0.35% Asian.

20.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

About 17.8% of families and 18.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.6% of those under the age of eighteen and 36.1% of those 65 or over.
