[3][4][5] Sara Harris obtained her PhD in geological oceanography from the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University in 1998.
[6] From 1998 to 2005, she served as the chief scientist at the Sea Education Association in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
[7] In this role, she would take students out to sea for six weeks to teach methodologies for collecting oceanographic data as well as navigation and sailing.
[14] Harris has taught a number of courses at the University of British Columbia, including Introduction to Environmental Science, Research Project in Environmental Science, The Fluid Earth: Atmosphere and Ocean, and Global Climate Change.
