Shemysheysky District (Russian: Шемыше́йский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia.
It is located in the southeastern central part of the oblast.
The area of the district is 1,688 square kilometers (652 sq mi).
[2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Shemysheyka.
[8] The population of Shemysheyka accounts for 36.9% of the district's total population.
