Shire of Avon

The Shire of Avon was a local government area about 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Sale, the major regional centre in central Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.

The shire covered an area of 2,533 square kilometres (978.0 sq mi), and existed from 1864 until 1994.

Avon was first incorporated as a road district on 13 September 1864, and became a shire on 10 October 1865.

During 1966 and 1967, parts of its area were annexed to the City of Sale.
