Sir William Ayloffe, 1st Baronet

Sir William Ayloffe, 1st Baronet (1563 – 5 August 1627), of Braxted Magna in Essex, was knighted by James I in 1603, created a baronet in 1612 and sat as a Member of Parliament (M.P.)

[1] He was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge (1583) and studied law at Lincoln's Inn (1585).

He was knighted, at the Charter House, on 5 May 1603 along with many others when James I first arrived in London.

[3] He married firstly Catharine, daughter and coheir to John Sterne, of Melbourn, Cambridgeshire.

[3] They had a son Joseph, who was also of Gray's Inn, and married Frances, daughter of Henry Ayscough, of Yorkshire and left children, first, Joseph Ayloffe, of Gray's Inn, Barrister at Law; second, William; and five daughters, Alice, Barbara, Anne, Margaret, and Mary.
