St. Johannis, Schalkau

St. Johannis or Johanniskirche (John's Church) is a Lutheran church and parish, dedicated to John the Baptist, in Schalkau, Thuringia, Germany.

The sacristy is the oldest part of the present building, built in Romanesque style in the 13th century.

Building of a new church began in 1516 with a choir in late-Gothic style.

In 1690, the town was hit by a fire, and the church burnt down again.

Two life-size figures of Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon were added, but the latter disappeared.
