Stari Grad, Makole

Stari Grad (pronounced [ˈstaːɾi ˈɡɾaːt], German: Sct.

The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms.

[4][5][6] The name Stari Grad is derived from the ruins of Štatenberg Castle, first mentioned in written documents dating to 1300.

It was abandoned in the 17th century, when Štatenberg Mansion was built by its owners.

[7] The local church is dedicated to Saint Anne and belongs to the Parish of Makole.
