From September to November 2024, Donlon, a Bronx native, served as the New York City Police Commissioner following the resignation of Edward Caban.
Growing up in the Bronx, Donlon attended Iona University in New Rochelle where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976.
He also ran the FBI/NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force[4] and served as Assistant Special Agent in charge of the FBI's New York Counter-terrorism Division.

[11][12] In response to the raid, Donlon noted that the FBI "took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department."
