In addition, the BBC was also the host broadcaster and staged the event at the Royal Festival Hall in London, after the winner of the previous edition, Nederlandse Televisie Stichting (NTS) from the Netherlands, opted not to host the event.

The selection notably featured Pearl Carr & Teddy Johnson, the representatives of the United Kingdom in 1959.

Six songs were performed and the top four advanced to the final, due to there being a tie for first place.

The final was held on 6 February 1960 at 21:30 GMT in the BBC TV Theatre in London.

At the close of the voting, the United Kingdom had received 25 points, placing 2nd in a field of 13 entries.
