The Ulhas splits at the northeast corner of Salsette island into its two main distributaries, the other one being the Thane Creek, both of which empty into the Arabian Sea.

It gets its name from the city of Vasai, previously Bassein, located on northern banks of the creek.

These bridge is no longer functional and exists as a heritage sructure.

A newer parallel road bridge is constructed recently and is also operational.
