It is part of the Grand Forks-ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Vineland Township was organized in 1876, and named after the region of Vinland.
[3] According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 45.8 square miles (118.7 km2), all land.
At the 2000 census there were 133 people in 38 households, including 31 families, in the township.
There were 16.7% of families and 22.1% of the population living below the poverty line, including 42.1% of under eighteens and 8.7% of those over 64.
