[3] Western Monarch registered population counts of 189 and 153 in the 1956 and 1961 federal censuses respectively.
[4][5] Prior to 1992, the community was previously a hamlet under the jurisdiction of Wheatland County.
[6] Western Monarch is on Highway 569 along the south side of the Red Deer River opposite East Coulee.
[2] The community is adjacent to the Altas Coal Mine Museum,[2] which became part of the Atlas No.
