After receiving the Medal of Honor, Huber stayed in the Navy and served throughout World War II.
He was promoted to the warrant officer rank of machinist on 23 July 1942 and assigned to the repair ship USS Medusa stationed at Pearl Harbor.
Huber died on January 25, 1982, and is buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery in California.
Although having received severe and dangerous burns about the arms and neck, he descended with a view toward rendering further assistance.
The great courage, grit, and determination displayed by Huber on this occasion characterized conduct far above and beyond the call of duty.
