In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Yahuecas barrio was 1,710.
Since 2001 when law 1-2001 was passed,[14] measures have been taken to identify and address the high levels of poverty and lack of resources and opportunities affecting specific communities in Puerto Rico.

[15] In August 2020, the United States released Federal Emergency Management Agency funds in support of the coffee industry, directly benefitting a coffee packaging plant in Yahuecas barrio.
The funds were in response to millions of dollars lost by the agricultural industry of Puerto Rico when Hurricane Maria hit the commonwealth on September 20, 2017.
