The village of Howard City is in the southeast part of the township.
The township is part of the Muskegon River watershed, running westward toward Lake Michigan.
As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 4,279 people, 1,534 households, and 1,142 families residing in the township.
There were 1,693 housing units at an average density of 47.0 per square mile (18.1/km2).
20.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
