It is located about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) east of the town of Smithton.

The Bass Highway follows the north-western boundary from north-east to south-west.

[2] The 2011 census determined a population of 590 for the state suburb of Forest.

[3] The C221 route (Back Line Road) terminates at the Bass Highway at the Forest/Smithton midpoint.

It runs east and then north through the locality before rejoining the Bass Highway in Wiltshire.
