Franja Morada ("Purple Strip") is the student wing of the Radical Civic Union (UCR), a major political party in Argentina.
Founded in 1967, it has led the Argentine University Federation (FUA) since the end of the military dictatorship in 1983.
During the storming of the National University of Córdoba, student protestors ripped off the curtains of the Aula Magna and waved them as flags – the curtains were purple, the same color as the stoles of the Catholic clerics who ran the university.
Purple thus became the identifying color of supporters of the reform, which sought to democratize universities and end the Church's involvement in public higher education.
Since 2022, the secretary general has been Gastón Soler, of the National University of Córdoba.
