Iiro Viinanen

Iiro Viinanen (born 27 September 1944, in Kuopio, Finland) is a Finnish politician.

Viinanen graduated as an engineer from a Tampere Institute in 1967 and as a Master of Science from the Helsinki University of Technology in 1974.

As Finland's Minister of Finance in the Aho Cabinet, he led a strict budget discipline and austerity measures.

He stated that if government spending wasn't cut, Finland would no longer be able to borrow money in foreign exchange reserves.

At the end of the 1990s, he became a board member of Nokia, Kone, UPM, YIT, Finnair, and Orion.
