John W. Brown (New York politician)

John W. Brown (October 11, 1796 – September 6, 1875) was an American lawyer and politician from New York, serving two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1833 to 1837.

Born in Dundee, Scotland in the Kingdom of Great Britain, Brown immigrated to the United States in 1802 with his father, who settled in Newburgh, New York.

He attended the public schools and later studied law.

In 1865, he ran on the Democratic ticket for the Court of Appeals but was defeated by Republican Ward Hunt.
