The Lauter (German pronunciation: [ˈlaʊtɐ] ⓘ) is a right tributary of the Neckar in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Both streams are fed from multiple sources at each edge of the valley.
It flows through the municipalities of Lenningen, Owen, Dettingen unter Teck, Kirchheim unter Teck and Wendlingen am Neckar.
The Celts already roamed the Lauter valley on their search for food.
In ancient times, the Romans built a limes in the lowlands of the flood plain and a fort in Dettingen unter Teck for its protection.
