The Llanganuco[1][2] Lakes (Llankanuku[3] in Quechua language), Chinancocha and Orconcocha, are situated in the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru.
[2][4] The lakes are part of Huascarán National Park.Lake Chinancocha,[5] (possibly from Quechua china female, -n a suffix, qucha lake,[6] "female lake") lies at an altitude of 3,850 metres (12,631 ft).
Lake Orconcocha[5] (possibly from Quechua urqu male / mountain,[7] "male lake") lies about 1 km away from Chinancocha at the end of the Llanganuco valley.
[8] Tragically a group of Czechoslovak professional climbers camping between the two lakes were killed.
