The train services are operated by Deutsche Bahn.

Since December 2013 the station is served by the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland.

The station was opened on 1 July 1889 under the name of Oetzsch.

It has had the following names: After Oetzsch and Markkleeberg had united to form Oetzsch-Markkleeberg in 1915, the station retained the name of Oetzsch.

In 1969, the station was integrated in the Leipzig S-Bahn network, which since 2013 has formed part of the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland.
