Methyl vinyl ether

Methyl vinyl ether is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH3OCH=CH2.

It is used as a synthetic building block, as is the related compound ethyl vinyl ether (a liquid at room temperature).

Methyl vinyl ether can be made by reaction of acetylene and methanol in presence of a base.

The acute LD50 for methyl vinyl ether is greater than 4 g/kg (rats, oral).
