Mount Hooker (New Zealand)

Mount Hooker is a 2,640-metre-elevation (8,661-foot) mountain in the West Coast Region of New Zealand.

Mount Hooker is located in the Southern Alps of the South Island.

[2] The mountain's toponym was applied by Julius von Haast to honour Joseph Dalton Hooker (1817–1911), British botanist and explorer.

[5] Prevailing westerly winds blow moist air from the Tasman Sea onto the mountains, where the air is forced upward by the mountains (orographic lift), causing moisture to fall in the form of rain or snow.

The months of December through February offer the most favourable weather for viewing or climbing this peak.
