Mount Lucia is part of the Liebig Range of the Southern Alps and is situated in the Canterbury Region of the South Island.
[2] The first ascent of the summit was possibly made in 1891 by Noel Brodrick with survey team.
She drowned at Aratiatia Rapids on 19 March 1913 at the end of that long holiday while fishing at the Waikato River, despite her husband's attempts to rescue her.
[6] Prevailing westerly winds blow moist air from the Tasman Sea onto the mountains, where the air is forced upward by the mountains (orographic lift), causing moisture to drop in the form of rain or snow.
The months of December through February offer the most favourable weather for viewing or climbing this peak.
