National Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Latakia

[1] In the 19th century, a large number of Western missionaries came to the Middle East, which was then under Ottoman rule.

The missionaries began holding services in a large number of cities and villages in the area and set up schools, using local teachers, near the churches.

After the Second World War new missionaries arrived, but the church's schools were soon closed by the government of the new Syrian Republic (1946–63).

Salam Hanna, spoke about the difficulties faced by the congregation in the Syrian Civil War.

[2][5] In 2023 the church sheltered people affected by the Turkey–Syria earthquakes and took part in relief and rebuilding efforts in the city.
