Its entire length runs through Union County and serves as the primary connector between the towns of Waxhaw, Mineral Springs, and Monroe.

The route roughly parallels a CSX railroad line for its entire span.

Before August 2011, NC 75 continued into downtown Monroe, ending at Charlotte Avenue.

It went across the state, through several cities and towns including Statesville, Asheboro, Pittsboro, Chapel Hill, and Durham.
