As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 5,899 people, 2,282 households, and 1,567 families residing in the CDP.

The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.36% White, 0.51% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.20% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races.

There were 2,282 households, out of which 31.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% were non-families.

26.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
