Pilot Knob, Texas

Pilot Knob is an unincorporated community in southern Travis County, Texas, United States, named after an extinct volcano found in the area.

[1][2] The area is semi-rural with residences on large lots or acreage and convenience stores and other small businesses.

[3] In 2012, the Pilot Knob planned unit development was approved.

[4] Pilot Knob is located at the intersection of US 183 and Farm to Market Road 812, 8 mi (13 km) southeast of Austin in southern Travis County.

Newton Collins, a freedman from Alabama, had a 506 acres (205 ha) farm in Pilot Knob, and an elementary school was named after him in 2018.
