They were led by 11th-year head coach Eddie Sutton and played their home games at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
On January 27, 2001 at 5:37 pm, following a road loss to the Colorado Buffalo, a Beechcraft Super King Air 200 transporting two players and six Oklahoma State broadcasters and members of the team coaching staff, crashed into a field near Strasburg, Colorado.
20 minutes after takeoff, the pilot became disoriented by his equipment and instruments failing in the midst of a snow storm, resulting in the fatal crash.
Following the disaster, Oklahoma State erected a memorial inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, entitled "Remember the Ten", to commemorate the passing of all those involved in the crash.
Additionally, a memorial was established in Strasburg, Colorado to honor and remember the tragedy.
